Overview

Apu Vinicunca Peru Tour is one of the popular full-day trips in Cusco. In fact, the Full Day Vinicunca Rainbow Tour is the second most visited place in Cusco, after Machu Picchu.

Also known as Montana de Siete Colores, Apu Vinicunca Peru attracts over 800 people per day. Only a handful of tourists leave Cusco without taking the Rainbow Mountain Tour.

There are two Rainbow Mountains in Cusco: Vinicunca and Palccoyo. Palccoyo is popular among those not willing to hike.

Vinicunca preserves its authenticity by allowing visitors to hike up the scenic route, and see Andean farms. The stunning landscapes of the Peruvian Andes will amaze you.

For the full-day Vinicunca Peru Tour, we will be leaving from Cusco at 0400 in the morning. Before heading to the trailhead, we will be having a brief stop at Cusipata. It is an Andean village.

From the base camp, you have two options: you can hike the Rainbow Mountain Trek or take a horseback ride. Please note that the horse ride is not included in the price you pay. You will need to negotiate with locals.

Mineral deposits are responsible for the rainbow mountain Peru’s colors. This is Cusco’s most popular and beautiful site.

Adventure Cusco, a local tour operator, is based in Cusco. Trekkers will get authentic local experiences. You can choose to join a small group or a private tour for a full-day hike up the seven-colored mountains.

Apu Vinicunca Peru Tour is at a high altitude experience. To avoid altitude sickness, it is highly recommended that you spend at least 3 days in Cusco.

Itinerary

Day 1Rainbow Mountain full day hike

We will pick you up between 04:00 hrs. – 04:30 hrs. Then we are going to set out on a drive through the South Valley. The drive takes around 3 hours to get Hanchipacha community where we are going to stop for breakfast. After that we are going to drive you 15 minutes more to Quesiuno community (4,326 m / 14,189 ft.), where we are going to start with the trekking of 3 hours approx. long to the rainbow mountain (most of the way is going up). In the way up we are going to be able to enjoy amazing landscapes of herds of alpacas and llamas, the Ausangate Mountain, many red mountains and traditional local houses. When we finally reach our golal the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft.), you will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depend of your trekking speed and weather conditions).

After the amazing view of the landscapes on the top we are going to down to the beginning of our trekking point, that take 2 hours approx. (Quesiuno community) where we are going to take our transportation to Hanchipacha community to have lunch. Then you are going to be drive to Cusco, and drop you at Regosijos square.
