Salkantay Trek Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights starts with the pick-up from your hotel at 5:00 am. Shortly after, we will board our private transportation to Mollepata located at 2,900 meters (9,514 ft.), here we will have breakfast and join the rest of the professional team that will go along with us for 5 days/ 4 nights. Then, we will travel for another 30 minutes, until we arrive to Marcoqasa, which is the starting point of the trail towards Soraypampa (3,900 meters /12, 795 ft.) .On our way, we will admire amazing landscapes and impressive views of the snow-capped mountain of Humantay. Our trek will take approximately 5 hours until reaching to our first base camp Soraypampa, where we will take a short break and enjoy our delicious lunch.
After lunch, we will visit the beautiful lake Humantay located about 1 hour and 30 minutes uphill hike from Soraypampa. This lake is fed by the hanging glaciers of Mt. Humantay, which is located at an altitude of 5,480 meters (17,979 ft.). After everyone arrives, we will have 1 hour to sit-down and enjoy the amazing views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. After our visit, we will return to our campsite in Soraypampa, where we will have our tea time, dinner at 6:00 pm, and spend our first night.
The seconda day of Salkantay trek Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights start, After an energizing breakfast in Soraypampa, we will get ready for a 4 hour uphill trek, which is one of the hardest of this day. During the course of our walk, we will be able to see different lakes and experience the ecological change ranging from the Quechua area climate zone until the highest point, the snowcapped Salkantay, which is located at 6271 meters (20,574 ft.). After a brief explanation from our tour guide, we will descend to the town of Huayracmachay, where we will have lunch and a short rest.
Continuing with the downhill trek, we will be able to observe the biodiversity of flora and fauna, also the geographic change ranging from a cold climate to a dry climate. Shortly after, we will be arriving to the town of Chaullay, where we will set up our campsite, have tea time, dinner and spend our second night.
The third day of Salkantay trek Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights start enjoying our breakfast in Chaullay, we will begin our downhill trek towards Collpapampa. Along the way, we will see a great variety of flora (orchids) and fauna, waterfalls and hot springs located near the course of the river of Santa Teresa. Once we get immerse in the beautiful green tropical, we will feel the climate change that will indicate us the entrance to the high forest. Arriving in Lucmabamba, we will have lunch and enjoy a short rest; also as part of the tour, our guide will be explaining the customs and traditions of the village of Lucmabamba (sowing and harvesting of coffee).
Continuing with our adventure, we will arrive to the hot springs of Cocalmayo, where we will set up our campsite and enjoy our dinner and a relaxing time at the thermal baths (optional canopy).
Continuing with Salkantay Trek Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights adventure, we will have our breakfast in Lucmabamba and after then, we will begin our uphill walk of 3 hours, following the Inca trail until arriving at the first archaeological precinct of Llaqtapata, where we will have a brief guided tour. After then, we will continue hiking until we reach the Central Hydroelectric of Machu Picchu, where we will have a short break to enjoy our lunch.
After lunch, we will continue with our trek towards Aguas Calientes. On the way there, we will see the botanical gardens (beautiful flowers of this area) and will also visit the waterfall of Mandor. Later on, we will be arriving in Aguas Calientes, where we will have dinner and will spend our last night in a hotel.
To finish with our Salkantay trek Machu Picchu 5 days 4 nights, we will wake up very early (04:00 am.) to start our trek up to the archaeological center of Machu Picchu, where we will have a guided tour of 2 hours, visiting the most important places such as, The Temple of the Sun, Temple of Three Windows, Incan terraces, etc … (optional visit to Huaynapicchu’s mountain-$15 per person).
At the end of our tour, we will have a free time to keep exploring the Incan city on our own. Later on, at the indicated time, we will start walking downhill from Machuppichu to Aguas Calientes. At 6:30 pm, we will be boarding our train back to Ollantaytambo station. Our transportation will be waiting for us at the station to take us back to Cusco.
